Esraa Abdel Fattah is an Egyptian internet activist and she was one of the most important inspirators of the Arabic Spring in Egypt. As Facebook Girl she gained worldwide fame as one of the faces of a new Egypt. In 2011, this passionate young woman was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. In an extraordinary encounter she speaks about the importance of having an alternative when an old system is being overthrown. Esraa’s message for the younger generation:
Young people should persist in their struggle for freedom, democracy, human dignity and social justice. My advice for all generations is to learn which tools we need in each period of time. If you come out fighting with the old tools, you will discover that it will get many, many people arrested, and that we cannot achieve our agenda. So in the days to come we need to think out of the box, and learn how we can achieve our demands with new tools. There is a future for you, for young people. Maybe it won’t come soon. Maybe we have to wait for a long time. But I am sure young people will achieve their goals if they keep pursuing them, and keep believing in them.
